The Lucky Media Team
Section titled “The Lucky Media Team”At Lucky Media, everyone is equal. The only differences between team members are responsibilities and salaries, both of which grow as your skills grow.
We’ve built a place where every person and every idea gets fair consideration. We have general team rules, but we apply them with common sense for edge cases. We’re a small team with different personalities, and that’s fine.
Team members are either part-time or full-time. More on that below.
Teamwork
Section titled “Teamwork”Helping each other is part of the job, not just a bonus. We expect team members to help, plan together, and share knowledge. This has been one of the main reasons our team keeps improving.
A senior dev helps a junior dev, the junior picks it up fast, and before long they’re helping others too. That’s how it’s supposed to work. Everyone has something to contribute.
That said, we cap direct help at 30 minutes per day per person. We don’t want anyone becoming dependent on others for answers they could find themselves. We usually start by pointing someone in the right direction, and if needed, we’ll code through it together, with an eye on the time.
Communication
Section titled “Communication”We use Discord for day-to-day communication. We have channels for company announcements, individual projects, and general chat. Some clients are also in our Discord, which helps with collaboration.
We also have a custom Discord bot. It does stuff.
Work Hours and Productivity
Section titled “Work Hours and Productivity”We use flexible working hours. Everyone manages their own schedule. “Work” includes more than just writing code: research, planning, and testing all count.
We don’t track every small break, but we do track hours so part-time and full-time employees stay on target.
A typical day looks like this:
| Type | Coding | Reviews & Teamwork |
|---|---|---|
| Full-time | 6 hours | 1 hour |
| Part-time | 3.5 hours | 30 minutes |
Quality and Culture
Section titled “Quality and Culture”We care about the quality of our work, even when clients don’t notice the details. Deadlines are set with enough room so we’re not rushing or burning out. We expect everyone to take time to think and plan before jumping into code.
The team has a good sense of humor and we keep things light, but we’re also respectful of each other. If something goes wrong between team members, we talk it out.
